Location impacts our lives in many ways. Our firm works with a range of multidisplinary partners and collaborators to develop innovative solutions that address spatial challenges.

Field Surveys and Data Collection

We plan and implement field surveys by collection and gathering of information at the local level by conducting primary surveys. These are an essential component of geographic enquiry and are carried out through observation, interviews, sketching, measurement among other methodologies.

Analysis and Mapping

Grounded in the science of geography and computer science. We conduct analyses on a range of spatial data in order to gain insights. This involves working with interactive maps and related tables, charts, graphs, and multimedia. This integrates the geographic perspective with statistical information in the attributes. It's an iterative process of interactive exploration and visualization of maps and data.

Software Development

We specify and analyze requirements, design, document, test and maintain geospatial software. We pride ourselves in using open source principles of development. We develop according to industry standards.

Mara Arwot GeoSpatial generates insight from geospatial data to support decision making. We are based in Kampala, Uganda, East Africa.

Our teams work both on the ground in field sites and offsite. During field work, the teams collect data and conduct ground truthing. The collected data is then documented, analyzed and used to map a range of indicators to support each unique project objective. We use a range of geospatial tools from mobile surveys to satellite imagery.

Should you need a web or mobile application to support project reporting or better visualize company data, do not hesitate to contact us. We are excited to start a dialogue, learn about you and develop bespoke robust products to give your company or project a competitive edge.

In the short to long-term, we are committed to understanding the transformative power of location data with the main aim of providing information products that inform decision and policy making for a range of practice sectors like; Agriculture, Energy, Extractives, Environment, Urban Spaces and Health.

We work across the globe. We would like to work with you too.

Within a broader project theme of developing Agricultural Early Warning Systems and Applications for Smallholders in Sub- Saharan Africa, We worked with Makerere University to plan and implement a field survey to collect data on weather and climate information and perceptions in selected agro-ecological zones in Uganda.

Off-Grid Energy Planning

In collaboration with GIZ, Rural Electrification Agency, Ministry of Energy and MIT's Institute for Data Systems and Society, the team developed a least cost model to inform off-grid electrification planning.

Oil, Gas, Mining

We planned, developed and conducted a one year long bespoke training for journalists reporting on extractives. The training focused on harnessing geospatial data sources in the extractives sector, with the aim of telling compelling and most informative stories. We partnered with the Natural Resource Governance Institute and the Africa Centre for Media Excellence.

Environment and Urban Spaces

Within a broader framework for monitoring longterm environmental changes using artiificial intelligence: "Change detection for landcover mapping in the areas surrounding the Murchison Falls National park", we collaborated with Microsoft and National Geographic Society to develop tools and document land cover changes in the areas surrounding Uganda's oldest and largest national park. This is an ongoing project.
